Dentistry Services

Pioneer Equine Hospital offers complete dentistry services for your horse. We utilize motorized and advanced water-cooled float systems for maintenance and preventive dental care in horses of all ages. Advanced diagnostics such as radiographs and computed tomography (CT) can be performed to diagnose sinus problems and tooth root pathology, which can occur with diseases such as tooth root abscesses or EOTRH (Equine Odontoclastic Tooth Resorption and Hypercementosis). Extractions can be done with standing sedation or general anesthesia if necessary. Teeth continuously erupt throughout most of a horse’s life and the development of sharp points and hooks can occur over time based on how they chew and break down feed material. Because of this, horses require regular dental attention to prevent the development of permanent dental disorders, irritation to soft-tissue structures in the mouth, dropped feed, and weight loss. The inability to break down plant material can lead to feed impaction in the intestinal system and development of colic signs. Whether you transport your horse to the hospital or need dental work done on farm, our veterinarians can care for all of your horse’s dental needs.
